Information on content and structure

Content:The archive of the Ursulines of Tildonk dates back to the initial foundation by Pastor Johannes Lambertz in 1818. It is an extensive archive, providing insight on the life and work of the Ursulines inside and outside their convents.
The history of the Congregation is well documented, both in the comprehensive annals and the various authentic documents regarding the foundation of the Congregation. In addition, there is a large section on Pastor Johannes Lambertz, containing his letters, books and other personal documents.

This archive follows the structure of the congregation. The archive of the General Government contains registries with minutes of Chapter meetings and reports of various council meetings. Additionally, correspondence between the General Government and the Provinces allows us to reconstruct the workings of the central administration. Further, the archive of the Provincial Government and District Zaïre/Vice-Province Congo provide similar records. There are extensive files of the Provincial Chapter meetings, as well as records of the meetings of the local superiors.

The archive of the Mission Procure is less extensive, and contains mainly documents regarding the mission in India. Notable are the annals and the registry of the missionaries.

Important are the archives of the communities and houses. All are similarly structured, focusing on the history, administration, finances, spirituality and apostolate of the convent. Some archives are less extensive than others. Notable houses are the Mother House of Tildonk, the house of Melsbroek and the house of Laken. These archives contain interesting files dating from the very beginning of the Congregation. Furthermore, they have extensive records on the education work of the Ursulines, providing good insight on school life over the years.

Finally, the personal archives are rather limited. They mainly contain death certificates, baptismal records, passports and prayer cards.
